OUR MISSION

“To build a thriving community that encourages a healthy, balanced, more connected life.”

How We Got Started

My World Better was founded in March of 2019 from the desire of a public school teacher and an artist to create a community that allowed people to feel safe enough to discover and grow who they were, and more importantly who they would like to become, through art and wellness practices. Though plans were made, it quickly became apparent, the only way to achieve this community was through trial and error. During the last 5 years, and with lots of trying and failing, a special place has developed ~ like a slow simmered sauce that needs to cook for hours, no short cuts here, just mindfully planning, observing what works and developing while in motion.

There is no Success without Failure

If you’ve ever had an idea inside your head and tried to bring it into fruition, you know it can be frustrating. Ideas don’t always translate into reality as easily as the dream-like version inside your head makes them seem like they would. My World Better is no exception. Even though the community was growing and magic was happening, the business structure was flawed. The sol remaining owner, Mary Hunt, tried to innovate and restructure while operating the business. Hunt managed to get the business to a place of being sustainable, if you call sustainable paying for itself and not the person behind the curtain doing the work. Mary had to make the tough decision to let the business go, with love of course, but still, bitter sweet.

Sometimes Letting Go is the Only Way

It was announced on August 26th, 2024 that My World Better would be closing in just one week. The days that followed can only be explained as magic. It was in letting go that Hunt realized what was flawed and needed fixed. All this time she had been caring the weight of the community herself. After the announcement that My World Better would be closing, phone calls, texts, social media messages, emails, etc. poured in. People proclaiming that “My World Better COULD NOT close, what could they do to help it stay open?” Lives had been changed and impacted so much that the community was not going to let the thing that saved them go. Hunt realized that this “end” was just the end as we knew it, not the end. It became clear that all the work she had done, the ebbing and flowing and patience was necessary for this next right step.

The Next Right Thing

The end as we know it quickly became a new beginning. It is because of the willingness of many to contribute, that a committee has been formed. We are currently meeting weekly and organizing the revising of My World Better. In this new version, the business structure is changing so the weight of the responsibility is distributed across the shoulders of many, instead of one. The short term goal of this relaunch is to continue to provide the community with a safe space to “just be.” A place to step off the rat race and breathe, to enjoy space to explore and understand we who are meant to be as an individual. A place quiet enough to allow us to listen to our body and hear what the next right things is.
